Our world is starting to recognize the benefits of getting kids outside, and offering them opportunities to explore nature while they're young is critical. On this blog, we will be discussing all things related to outdoor-based schooling (and unschooling), including topics that will interest both teachers and parents.

I wrote these picture books to help normalize being outdoors for young kids, even if they're not around many others who regularly play outside in their daily lives. Read with your kids and ask them questions. Their lifelong learning starts with YOU.

Here are some tips for keeping kids warm in near-freezing weather: 
  • Start with a "wicking" (non-cotton) layer against the skin (so their base layer doesn't get damp and clammy).
  • Core warmth is KEY for keeping extremeties warm (the body naturally diverts heat to the torso to preserve vital organs), so when in doubt, put extra layers on (shirts & pants).
  • Tuck shirts into pants. Tuck pants into socks. Tuck rain pants over boots (to keep the moisture and air of of them).
